Born in Hawaii, Mason’s family relocated to Utah when he was still a toddler. He spent the next twenty years of his life there and obtained a bachelor’s degree in computer science at the University of Utah before relocated to Washington for Microsoft in 1999. He spent ten years at Microsoft as a Software Design Engineer working in Windows Networking, the SQL Server Engine, the HD-DVD standard, the .NET Framework virtual machine, and Microsoft hardware.

Mason is a lifelong athlete and in his youth did gymnastics, football, and baseball. In his early adult life, he became serious about body building, kickboxing, rock climbing, skiing and Pilates before encountering a number of injuries.

These injuries led to physical therapy which led to yoga. Regaining flexibility led Mason to aerial acrobatics. Mason completed the Ana Forrest teacher training in 2006. He has been teaching aerial acrobatics and yoga since 2005. He has trained in acrobatics with Lara Paxton (of the Aerialistas and Circus Contraption), Eric Newton (Eye of Newt Circus, Cirque du Soleil), Elsie Smith (Nimble Arts), and Sanca. Mason has taken the full set of course offerings in Thai Massage for Soaring Crane Massage in Seattle and has trained at ITM, the Sunshine School, and Loi Kroh in Thailand. Mason graduated from Bellevue Massage School and became a Licensed Massage Practitioner in April of 2011. Mason completed the TRX instructor certification in 2011.

The synergy of yoga, aerial acrobatics, strength training, and Thai massage was so appealing that Mason began developing and teaching an aerial curriculum and he decided to open his own studio focusing on using these techniques to improve people’s health and wellness. In February of 2012, Mason opened Knotty Yoga in Redmond, WA.
